Imtiaz Ali’s film Highway is a road trip to self-realization. The film skilfully weaves a cascade of emotions blended with some mind-blowing scenic moments which haven’t been shown in Indian cinema. Imtiaz prefers to deviate to follow his previous hits and the treatment meted out in this film requires guts for a director who has had block-busters to his credit.
The scene stealers of the film are Alia Bhatt and Randeep Hooda, not to mention the soulful music rendered by A R Rahman. Alia has managed to give an award-winning performance and has done her father Mahesh Bhatt proud. The natural ease with which she switches emotions is commendable, her child-like neurotically-confused behaviour encapsulate the fact that she is an actor to reckon with. Randeep Hooda’s restrained character adds a rustic dimension to the film.
A noteworthy mention to the casting director Mukesh Chhabra for getting the perfect casting for all the other characters. Mukesh has always snugly fitted talented actors for the films he has casted for.
