December 2017, Mumbai: UPAJ, which opened to a full house last year, is back to enthral the audiences yet again with four dynamic artistes Tabla maestro Zakir Hussain, prodigal Sitarist Niladri Kumar, skilled keyboardist Zubin Balaporia and the young, talented Bass player Mohini Dey.

UPAJ literally means “harvest”, while in Indian classical music it is a term used for the enthralling “improvisations” done by a skilled artiste during a performance. Here’s looking forward to a vibrant evening of melody and rhythm, conventional and spontaneous, serene and pulsating that resonates through inimitable renditions, enchanting listeners with soulfulness and joy.

Artist Bios:
ZAKIR HUSSAIN
A child prodigy of Indian Classical Music, Zakir Hussain groomed under the tutelage of 
​his 
father, the legendary tabla maestro late Ustad Allarakha. He is today appreciated both in the field of percussion and in the music world at large as an international phenomenon. A classical tabla virtuoso of the highest order, his consistently brilliant and exciting performances are marked by uncanny intuition and masterful improvisational dexterity, founded in formidable knowledge and study. The favourite accompanist for many of India’s greatest classical musicians and dancers, he has not let his genius rest there. Widely considered a chief architect of the contemporary world music movement, Zakir Hussain’s contribution to world music has been unique, with numerous historic collaborations with internationally renowned artistes.
NILADRI KUMAR
The son and disciple of Sitar maestro Pandit Kartik Kumar, Niladri Kumar is a maverick musician. He started learning sitar at the tender age of four and did his first public performance at the age six. Hailed as one of the more serious young exponents of Indian Classical music, Niladri’s flashes of unparalleled brilliance is a result of years of learning and a lineage of five generations of sitar players. Today, Niladri Kumar is hailed as a global icon to reckon with, an unconventional rare instrumentalist honing a unique repertoire with his profound in-depth understanding of traditional and classical styles on the sitar to his electrifying renditions on his own instrumental innovation the 'zitar'.

ZUBIN BALAPORIA
Zubin Balaporia started playing the piano at the age of 6 and did his first studio session at the age of 19 in 1985. Since 1988 he has produced music & done sound design for Television, Radio Commercials, Documentaries, Corporate Films, Theatre Productions and has been the Background Music Director for many landmark Feature films such as Dev, Honeymoon Travels, Lafangey Parindey, Fireflies etc.  Zubin Balaporia has also managed a parallel career as keyboard player for India’s renown band – Indus Creed formerly know as Rock Machine.
MOHINI DEY
Mohini Dey, started learning Bass Guitar at the age of 3, by the age of 10 she was doing concerts and recordings and today at the age of 20, she has already done over 100 performances across the globe. Currently the Bass Player in A R Rahman's Band, she has worked with renowned artistes like Ranjit Barot, Steve Vai, Guthrie Govan, Louiz Banks, Gary Husband, Zakir Hussain, Sivamani, Prasanna Ramaswamy, Niladri Kumar, Mike Stern, Narada Michael Walden, Gergo Borlai, Federico Malaman and many more. Mohini Dey has been described as prodigy by many acclaimed musicians and also the Most Successful Musician UNDER 30 By "Forbes India".
