2018 we will celebrate the 8th year of the NCPA Summer Fiesta Festival! It is a community-minded festival designed to empower children by inspiring their imaginations and broadening their creative minds through exciting, interactive play. This festival continually strives to provide new and unique opportunities for the children to learn, play and be active. Local and national talent conducting the workshops at the festival show a wide array of different skills, from acting, public speaking, dancing and writing.
Summer Fiesta aims to promote the benefits and values of the performing arts not just by showing children the entertainment but also by getting them involved at the lowest cost possible. Through all the workshops, Summer Fiesta allows children the opportunity to be creative, build knowledge and most importantly HAVE FUN!

1 - Script to Performance by Silly Point Productions
Age Group - 12 to 18 years
Venue - West Room 1, Jamshed Bhabha Theatre, NCPA

Workshop Description - The students will be involved in a 3-week intensive daily workshop which will culminate into a performance for the parents and friends.This workshop is for children aged 12 to 18 and is a limited number of a maximum of 25 students only to ensure quality and efficiency in the workshop.They will learn everything from Script to Stage. Lights, Sound, Music, Production, Acting, Speech, Costumes, Sets, Props, and even how to manage a fictional budget for a play with a marketing and publicity campaign prepared by the students.
2 - Dance Dynamite with MAHAFREENN IRANI
Age Group - 7 to 12 years

Workshop Description - The objectives of this workshop is to help children enjoy music and rhythm, shed inhibitions and be comfortable with their bodies. It also aims to develop balance and coordination, move with confidence, imagination and control, and develop an awareness of space. They learn dance steps like V step, knee lifts, jazz square, and various other dance styles.
3 - Drama Madness with Shaun Wiliams
Age Group - 6 to 8 years
Venue - Sea View Room, Tata Theatre, NCPA
Dates - 14th May to 19th May 2018

Workshop Description - A workshop where we use the tools of drama to learn and create, to discover and develop our skills.By exploring fun theatre games and exercises, skit making, character creation and lots more, we will work towards confidence in expression and articulation.
4 - Newspaper Making with Shabnam Minwala (Little Literature Live!)
Age Group - 8 to 14 years

Workshop Description - The workshop is all about making news and newspaper production and create one exclusively for children. Become a journalist and start reporting on duty!
5 - THE MOVING BODY IN THEATRE with Sujay Saple (Shapeshift, Mumbai)
Age Group - 8 to 12 years

Workshop Description - This workshop will be an introduction to the basics of theatre and performance through the wonderful world of movement and body language. Fundamental performance tools such as imagination, improvisation, sharpening of instinct and impulses, team-building and complicity, relationship with rhythm and space, confidence-building, ensemble work and so on, will be touched upon. In all this, there will be a special focus on physical expression. The emphasis of the workshop will be on journeying through a shared process rather than on mastering the art of performance. The sessions will focus on each participant exploring their own creativity, imagination and madness in a laboratory-like environment – through shared participation, bonding, and observational learning. Through physical improvisations, individual exercises, as well as ensemble improvisations, the workshop will enable participants to create a fully accessible physical vocabulary, as well as get a keen understanding of body language for creating characters.On the final day parents will have an experimental session on the floor with kids doing some of the workshop games that the kids have done over the week.

Workshop Description - A new approach to story-telling, this workshop will have children tell tales through dance. Covering the basic mudras, the navarasas (the nine emotions) and multiple different ways in which the eyes, neck and head can be used in Indian classical dances, this one of a kind workshop will help children appreciate and learn the basics of our country’s rich dance culture.
8 - Voice - Acting and Public Speaking with Rima Medhi, Creatiwitty.inc
